(*) Royal paper is a type of paper that used to be exclusively utilized to write text of decrees promulgated by the kings in ancient Vietnam.
In fact, the traditional technique of this paper making is being lost due to no successor of Lại family at Bưởi village (Thuỵ Khuê today). There’re only artisan Phạm Văn Tâm and his wife who continue making this type of paper in Phong Khê, Bắc Ninh. Albeit it’s not perfectly standardized technique, their papers are still beautiful, durable and employed in the restoration of ancient ordained decrees from various Vietnamese dynasties.
